PC FR parts: flame-retardant strength, made to order

PC FR is our engineering material: flame-retardant polycarbonate with the highest strength and heat tolerance we stock. It is the right choice for components near heat or electrical equipment. We 3D print PC FR parts to order in London, Ontario and ship across Canada.

UL 94-2023 V-0 rated material

Tested by the manufacturer to meet the UL 94-2023 V-0 standard, the top level of flame resistance for 3D printing filament, with self-extinguishing behaviour for parts near electrical equipment.

Strongest material we stock

Tensile strength of 60 MPa and bending strength of 90 MPa, roughly double PETG.

Stable past 110 °C

Heat deflection at 113 °C and a glass transition of 145 °C. The most heat-tolerant material we offer.

Applications

What PC FR is used for

Typical jobs we print in PC FR. If your part is similar to any of these, PC FR is likely the right choice.

Electrical enclosures

Junction covers, control boxes, terminal covers, and panel hardware.

Electronics housings

Enclosures for power supplies, chargers, battery packs, and control electronics.

Brackets near heat

Mounts and hardware inside warm equipment enclosures, near lighting, or around appliances.

Industrial components

Guards, covers, and fixtures for demanding shop and plant environments.

Mechanical values are measured in the X–Y print plane. Strength across layer lines is significantly lower (tensile strength approximately 21 MPa in Z), so print orientation matters more for PC FR than for our other rigid materials; we orient every part around its load direction. PC FR is rigid with low elongation: choose TPU where a part needs to flex. The manufacturer tests the material to the UL 94-2023 V-0 standard; flammability behaviour of a printed part also depends on its geometry, and a printed part carries no UL listing of its own.

Common questions

PC FR printing FAQ

Is PC FR certified for electrical applications?

The filament is tested by the manufacturer to meet the UL 94-2023 V-0 standard, the top level of flame resistance for 3D printing filament, with self-extinguishing behaviour. That rating applies to the material as tested by Bambu Lab: a printed part does not carry a UL listing or other certification of its own, so for regulated or inspected installations confirm the requirements with your inspector before specifying a printed component.

How hot can PC FR parts get?

PC FR holds its shape past 110 degrees Celsius under load, with a glass transition temperature of 145 degrees. It is the right material for warm enclosures and equipment, though not for direct flame or engine-exhaust temperatures.

When should I choose PC FR over PETG?

Choose PC FR when the part needs maximum strength, heat tolerance above roughly 70 degrees, or flame-retardant behaviour near electrical equipment. For everyday parts, PETG does the job at a lower price. PC FR is an engineering material and is priced as one.

How much does a PC FR print cost?

PC FR is our most expensive standard material. Upload a file or describe the part and you will receive a print and shipping price within one business day, with no obligation.
